Today I am super excited about getting to Show Off & Brag about Amy at Atta Girl Says. One of the first things that brought me to her blog is this really fabulous logo and header. Now this immediately told me this was going to be a fun place to visit. She is super sweet, funny, down to earth and oh so talented all rolled into one fabulous blog. I love her style and I know you will too.
When Marty asked me to be a guest at her weekly Show Off & Inspire party, I was honored.
I feel like a little girly in a twirly skirt and her first pair of high heels. I’m dancing around the room, all giddy and silly, but secretly hoping that I don’t stumble and wind up on the floor with my skirt around my neck!
In case you don’t know me, I’m Amy (that’s my son Jackson in the photo with me). My blog is Atta Girl Says, where I share ideas to make your home lighter and your heart brighter, and I sure hope I can inspire you.
We moved into our dream home 2 1/2 years ago, and living here has really sparked my creativity and awakened my love of decorating. Because while it was a move-in ready home, there’s always something else we can do to make the home better reflect our personalities, our personal style and our lifestyle. Home is always a work-in-progress. But I do feel so blessed to live here and have the opportunity to share our home with you.
I was born and raised in North Carolina, where big front porches are a must.
We’re finally moving into cooler weather here, so the front porch is a prime gathering spot (or the perfect spot for lolly gagging.)
Come on in, and let me show you around.
If you’d stopped by just a few weeks ago, this is the scene that would have greeted you as you walked in our front door.
Spooky, huh? I do love decorating for Halloween.
Pretty soon, the entryway will begin to look a bit like Christmas.
I can’t wait!
But most of the time, the space looks a little something like this.
If I had to describe my style, I’d say it’s traditional, eclectic vintage — with a few French touches thrown in here and there. The entryway, which gets changed a lot, depending on the season, pretty well sums up my style.
I love painted furniture and this buffet in our foyer was the piece that started my love affair with painting and inspired me to go into business painting furniture. I’m also a sucker for vintage pottery and mercury glass. If it’s shiny, I can’t look away! (And do you see my little dog in the photo above? That’s McCoy, who is named for my favorite vintage pottery!)
The entry leads right into our dining room.
The table is always set for some little get-together or another, like a wine-and-cheese party.
Now, let’s head into the heart of our home: our kitchen.
I shared lots of photos and details about my kitchen this summer during the All About the Details Kitchens Showcase. Be sure to click over to see more kitchen photos.
We eat most of our meals here, when the table is not covered with Legos or homework or craft projects.
(Its current state!)
But I do like to dress up the table for different occasions. This casual autumn tablescape is one of the favorites I’ve created, and it was just for a simple Sunday dinner with my husband and son. I fully believe everyday moments can be a special occasions.
Our kitchen, breakfast nook and keeping room are one large space, and we spend most of our time here. These are cozy, well-used rooms, filled with the things we love. And they’re not always neat as a pin.
Look closely, and you might see some Legos in the keeping room. Even though I do try to keep most of them stashed in my storied empire-style sideboard, a true estate sale treasure.
I love decorating the keeping room mantel for different seasons.
Last year’s fall rustic chippy wood mantel was one of my favorites. I just love aqua and mason jars.
This year, I went for more traditional colors in my fall mantel decorations.
And I can’t wait to decorate the keeping room for Christmas soon.
I loved last year’s Christmas mantel look, but I have something entirely different planned for this Christmas.
Next, we’re going to head to one of my favorite rooms in the house. But it might surprise you…
It’s our recently renovated laundry room and mudroom.
We designed and added the built-in storage, so this room is much more functional than it once was.
We can also take a peek in the powder room. It’s tiny, but elegant. (And so very hard to photograph!)
You’re fancy company, so I’ll invite you to have a seat in the living room.
To be honest, we don’t spend much time in this room. But I love having a formal living room when we throw parties.
And it’s one of my favorite spaces to decorate at Christmas. (And yes, I know I need a rug in here. But remember earlier when I introduced you to McCoy? She’s 14-years-old and prone to accidents every now and again. A rug wouldn’t stand a chance!)
So the room remains rug-free while McCoy (aka the Queen of the Ottoman Empire) still reigns.
Now, let’s head into our master bedroom and sitting room, one of the first spaces we finished in the house.
It all started with those Farrah Fretwork curtains from Target and those gorgeous French chairs, which I bought at a local consignment store. (Oh the perks of living near the High Point Furniture Market.)
You may notice from our bedroom that I’m just a little bit obsessed with birds!
Let’s head upstairs now.
This is my son’s room — the room that sold us on this house.
What little boy wouldn’t love a bedroom and playroom like this?
The mural, which was here when we bought the house, even features the Tar Heels, my alma mater. Good thing it wasn’t Duke or N.C. State. Boo!
My office and craft room is also upstairs…
but I’m still working on it. In fact, I’d love it if you’d weigh in on some fabrics I’m considering for the space.
We also have a guest suite upstairs…
Otherwise known as the inlaws’ room when they visit.
The guest bedroom is another work in progress. I had plans to decorate it completely in shades of aqua and pink, but a new furniture find had me rethinking that combo.
So, you’ll have to stop by Atta Girl Says to find out what I have planned for this space.
Thanks for dropping in and touring our home. And thanks Marty for giving me the chance to show it off.
This home truly is our dream home, but not for the reasons you might think. Square footage and decor don’t matter nearly as much as the memories we share here.
Isn’t she just a total delight and her home is gorgeous. You really want to keep up with all of her projects to see what she is doing next and how she is going to design these rooms, so rush over and click to follow. Thanks tons Amy for letting me Show You Off and Brag a Little.
