I hope everyone had a very fun, fabulous and safe 4th with your family and friends. We had a great BBQ and I had a little time to do some crafting and putzing too.
You know how it is, you do a project and then you just keep tweaking it ever so slightly. I am really enjoying my new diy desk accessories. I had so much fun trying to create a look inspired by some accessories that I saw from Kate Spade. I just needed a place for my paperclips, so I took a trip to goodwill and found just the perfect thing.
Ok, actually I found a few things. I have no idea what these little rectangle dishes were originally for, but I bought both of them (hubby said he thinks they might have been for sugar packets) and also a little round dish that I thought was cute.
I’m still using the same gold spray paint that I have been using on all my glass and accessories. I love this stuff. It is available at Joann’s and on line.
I taped a strip through the middle of one of the rectangular dishes and then sprayed it with my 24K gold spray paint. Perfect size to hold my big paperclips.
The second one I left the bottom and top of the dish clear and just spray painted a gold band around the side of the bottom. I also sprayed some of my butterfly clips gold too.
I think they are a fun addition to the desk.
Alright, I know, this is getting to be a little obsessive, but since I have been painting everything in sight, I really thought I needed to give my tape dispenser a chic makeover.
Out came the frog tape and I covered all the clear plastic area really good.
Then outside to give it a good coat of 24K gold. I read somewhere that if you spray clear over the top of gold paint, it will make it shiny and look more gold. It will also protect the paint too. We’ll see how this turns out.
While the paint was drying, I decided to change out the lamp for a more sleek style. I love the style and geometric shape of this one – – –
plus it has a metal shade with a brass liner inside. How fabulous is that!!!!!
Not sure if I did something wrong or what, but the clear spray over the gold paint on the dispenser made it look weird. I ended up gold leafing it. Much better.
I love the tape dispenser, it is a great finishing touch.
Then on a seperate shopping trip with a friend, I found one more upgrade. I really thought I needed an elegant cup to go with all my other accessories. How could I possibly turn down this beauty with gold trim.
OK, I am going to quit now, I love it all and I have had so much fun just playing. Isn’t that what counts?
