Today I have the pleasure of Showing Off and Bragging about Suzanne of Pieced Pastimes. I think you are going to really enjoy her home, so warm and inviting. She has filled her home with a style I like to call “rustic elegance”. I love the touches of nature and the beautiful wood and stone details that make their home so unique and inviting. Grab a drink, sit back and enjoy, you will love this tour.
Hi everyone! I’m Suzanne from Pieced Pastimes where my blogging mission is to inspire you.
I am a big fan of Marty’s Show Off & Inspire Series, so when she asked to feature my home I was beyond flattered. My husband and I built our cape home here in New Hampshire 30 years ago and raised our 5 children here. The weather in New England is unpredictable and our home has weathered many storms over the years. True to form, we are in the midst of yet another snow storm today.
I would call my decorating style ‘rustic country’. We are big on DIY and our home is a reflection of that. Our family room has cathedral ceilings and a soaring fieldstone fireplace. The extra long mantel accommodates the firewood dumbwaiter.
Mahogany floors and leather furniture round out the family room.
We repurposed an antique factory cart into this coffee table a few years ago. Finding new ways to use found objects is a favorite pastime of ours.
Our mantel decor changes with the seasons. I start with a basic idea and build up from there.
My inspiration for this years Winter mantel was to capture the stillness of the season.
They say the kitchen is the heart of the home and it surely is in our home. It is the busiest room of the house and the place we gather most as a family.
We have a love for vintage items with a history and a purpose, so you will find many utilitarian objects from the past sprinkled throughout our home.
In my mind, there can never be enough natural light in a home, so I made these lined valances to frame out the kitchen windows but preserve as much of the day light as possible.
The farmhouse table belonged to my parents when I was a child and now our children have grown around this same table.. Oh, the stories this humble piece of furniture could tell.
This turned staircase off the kitchen leads to the loft office.
More simple objects used as decor.
The kitchen is made up of two separate ‘L’s which provides plenty of cabinets and counter space….
…..a must have for someone like me who has a passion for cooking and baking.
Our master bedroom is simplistic in its decor but filled with the memories of our lives.
Our bedside table carries the one essential for a beautiful life.
This is the view towards the closet side of the room. Sloped ceilings are an inherent detail of cape style homes. We took advantage of the feature by adding lighted storage space in the 4′ knee wall.
The trapunto design on the matalaise bedspread inspired me to create some of my own wholecloth quilts.
A tousled pepper berry wreath hangs above the bed.
The pitcher and bowl was a gift from many years ago that was the perfect addition to my marble topped dresser.
My gardening hat rests for now but we will be reunited soon for our ongoing adventures in the yard.
Do you see the rocking chair tucked into the corner?
This antique cane seated chair was a gift from my husband. Over the years, we have spent many hours rocking our babies here.
I hope you have enjoyed this glimpse into our home and that you will stop by for a visit. I love to share my Home Decor, DIY, Repurposing, Recipes, Sewing, and other projects with you. One can never have too many friends. Thanks so much to Marty for inviting me to ‘Showoff’.
